Castlewellan Castle was the venue once again for DDYC’s twelfth confirmation weekend . . . and what a weekend!!
The theme of the weekend was ‘New life in Christ’ from 2 Corinthians 5:17
‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come the old has gone, the new is here!’
The castle was bursting with young people and their leaders from all over our diocese, 18 parishes were represented, 114 young people, 39 young leaders and youth leaders and 8 staff.
Our speaker was Craig Lutton, a youth leader from Groomsport parish and a regular at these weekends from when he was a young person himself! He challenged all of us to think about the importance of our faith under the headings of ‘What does it mean to have new life in Christ?’, ‘Talking with God – the importance of prayer’ and ‘The Bible - how and why should we read it?’
After each talk the young people came together to chat, have a bit of fun, pray about what they had just heard and to ask any questions they may have.
A dry and bright Saturday saw everyone outside trying a variety of different sporting activities -the inflatable bungee runs and obstacle courses, ultimate Frisbee, archery, clay pigeon and laser combat games and inside being creative with ‘selfies’, clay and bag designing.
One of the highlights of the weekend is ‘Saturday night live’ – the ultimate quiz – girls verses boys! The girls had been on a 7 year winning streak only to lose this year to an over-dramatic group of boys – well done boys…finally!
An exhausting but amazing weekend for everyone and we hope and pray that God will continue to play a huge part in these young people’s lives and they will continue to grow to know our amazing God better each and every day.
Thank you to all who came and helped out as leaders.
