About DDYC
Down and Dromore Youth and Children

Down and Dromore diocese one of the 12 dioceses of the Church of Ireland and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Our Bishop is Rt. Rev David McClay and the diocese is roughly equivalent to County Down in Northern Ireland, which contains around half a million people. Our 77 parishes minister in areas that range from inner city Belfast and Newry to rural areas such as Mourne and Strangford.

The Youth, Children’s and Families Department seeks to support and serve these parishes and leaders in whatever way we can to see their ministry develop and grow. We do this through an extensive team of dedicated volunteers and our core three staff:

Andrew Brannigan has been involved in Down and Dromore since 1999 primarily as Diocesan Youth Officer. He has extensive experience to in the areas of youth ministry, young adults, training, family ministry and strategic development and outreach. He has also developed several books in recent years in the area of Confirmation, outreach ideas, youth and children’s games, Church of Ireland history and family devotions.

Andrew is the team leader for the Department but is also involved in several other areas of diocesan development that are not within this Department such as the Life Changing Leadership initiative, Diocesan Readers, parish outreach and strategic development, training and support for new church initiatives and plants.

Our Children’s Officer, Julie Currie, comes from a teaching background and brings a wealth of experience in working with children and churches across the Church of Ireland. She is a gifted communicator and has a passion for developing leaders in their ministry with children. Julie has been with the diocese since 2011 and in that time has developed several new initiatives for growing children’s ministry such as holiday Bible clubs, camps, training, and the Praise Party. She has also written 5 Holiday Bible Club resources for parishes and produces the highly acclaimed ‘JIGSAW’ Sunday School curriculum –a full year’s ‘pick-up-and-use’ resource for Sunday Schools, including Family Services, that is now used by over 30 churches in the diocese and is in demand from other churches.

Tim Burns is our Youth Officer in Down and Dromore and has been with the diocese since 2014. He also brings considerable experience to this role having previously been involved as a youth minister in Belfast, Newtownabbey and Dublin. He runs many ongoing youth initiatives in the diocese in areas such as confirmations and youth summer camps but has also started new initiatives such as the Saturday Night Live youth event and the ‘Impact’ youth group programme resource for youth fellowships. Tim works closely with parishes to help them develop and grow their groups and has a vision for seeing young people get more involved in leadership opportunities.
