Meet Laura Kenwell who is our speaker this year at the Confirmation Weekend. She's the youth worker in Shankill Parish Lurgan - but she's also lots more than that - read more about her here...
1. Give us one outstanding fact about yourself...
I am currently on a mission to visit all the continents before i'm 30.... Only one to go! (and no, antartica doesn't count!)
2. What's your favourite past time?
All things musical... playing/writing/listening and the occasional game of squash!
3. Why are you a Christian?
To be really honest I became a Christian when I was 14 because I was scared of going to hell... but the longer I was a Christian I realised that the reward after we die is not the focus... living with Jesus now is what's important and its about making a difference every day... that our lives are to be used for blessing the people around us and being in a relationship with our creator.
4. How do i become a famous speaker like you?
James morrison's version of man in the mirror... on repeat
6. Have you got a favourite Bible verse? What is it?
Genesis 1 v 16 '... He also made the stars' - Just the fact that the stars are incredibly amazingly wonderful and the fact that God created them was just stuck onto the end of a sentence! It reminds me of how awesome He is...
7. What do you do for a job?
I've been the youth worker in Shankill parish in Lurgan for the last 5 and a half years
8. Why should I stick with church after I get confirmed?
We all need to be in a community where there are people around us to support, challenge, inspire, love and help us to keep going when times are tough. A place where we can bring others to to feel welcome and hear about God. We can all do something to help our churches look more like this.
9. Tell us an embarrassing moment about yourself?
I used to play hockey for a club in derry and one day half way through a match i realised that my skirt had fallen off and blown away!
10. Are you excited or nervous about the future of the church?
I am hopeful. Recently on the news we have seen how much much need there is in the world. We have a duty to help our brothers and sisters. Shane Claiborne said 'without justice for the poor religious activities are little more than an annoying noise in the ears of God'. This is one area where i am excited about the potential the church has to make a difference.
