Jesus tells us to have faith like a mustard seed - Luke 17.6. The concept of growing faith is one which many of us may find strange - in today's culture we either have faith or we don't.
Luke 17.65The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" 6He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. |
This is not a biblical image though. Faith is something which can be grown. It is something which will develop and expand over time. We start our Christian pilgrimage as new believers, people with passion - but not necessarily people with faith. At least not the faith which sees things happen.
In any relationship with anyone we have it grows and deepens. Our relationship with God is the same. As we deepen our relationship with Him, our faith grows.
Do we really believe in miracles, that people can be healed, in God moving and changing situations? Our faith can change things.
Maybe you know the story of Abraham and God talking about the city of Sodom... Genesis 18: 1 -33. Where God was going to destroy the city because of their sin - Abraham spoke to God and negotiated a deal whereby if God found 10 righteous people living there He would save it. Abraham took a risk in negotiating with God, and put his faith into action. He planted a seed of hope that Sodom would be saved - He watered it by pleading with God to listen, and God responded. Abraham's prayer to God changed things.
How often do we plant seeds with God? How often do we begin something and allow it to flourish and grow?
Take a look at the story below to get inspiration for our journeys...

The challenge is there - perhaps nowhere else is the challenge to have faith like Children more obvious. (Matthew 18: 2-4) Take a leaf from this young lads book and plant seeds with the expectation that they will grow.
Have faith!
